Crown House Project: THe Drawing Room

Interior Design, Sevenoaks, Kent

THE BRIEF

This dual aspect room with it's perfect proportions was a delight to plan. The clients had a clear idea of what they wanted to achieve - a formal drawing room for entertaining (and retreating to of an evening), but without too much formality.

We had a beautiful canvas to work with - Farrow & Ball Pigeon painted walls and stunning bespoke cabinetry.

From there the search was on to find fabric ideas to help dress the windows and provide a springboard for other colours to use in the room.

We selected a classic rambling floral: Windrush by Lewis & Wood for the two pairs of full-length curtains. This English floral on a white linen fabric created a freshness against the darker walls and this gave a lovely palette for the rest of the room.

My client has a passion for pink and red together and so we were then able to develop the rest of the scheme and source fabrics for the deep red velvet sofa, new deep buttoned footstool and a pile of cushions that brought that life. These pinks and reds worked well, complementing the green walls and helping to provide a "lift" so that the room doesn't feel too old and staid.
